London 2012 Olympics: Vietnamese pupils to join Big Dance for the first time

(CPV) - In Ho Chi Minh City on February 25 and in Da Nang City on March 10, for the first time, hundreds of youngsters come from around 35 secondary schools across Vietnam will be playing their part in the London 2012 Olympics – by dancing!

(CPV) - In Ho Chi Minh City on February 25 and in Da Nang City on March 10, for the first time, hundreds of youngsters come from around 35 secondary schools across Vietnam will be playing their part in the London 2012 Olympics – by dancing!

The young people will be staying in camps with additional activities including the decorating of the camps, quizzes and a fashion show. The events will start at 08h00 and end at 16h30.

The Big Dance, the largest dance program of its kind in the world, is this year part of the Cultural Olympiad in the accompanying London 2012 Festival.

Under the theme of “Celebrate the power of the games”, the Big Dance will part of British Council Vietnam’s Connecting Classrooms project working with the Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training.

Founded in 2006 by the Mayor of London in partnership with Arts Council England, Big Dance has been participated in by more than two million people. Big Dance 2012 continues to celebrate the diversity of dance styles around the world this year it includes a new dance choreographed for 2,000 dancers in London’s Trafalgar Square.

In Vietnam, the participants are encouraged to share their experiences of the day with movies, pictures and stories that they can exchange with their school counterparts across the world through networks set up by the Connecting Classrooms program. To prepare for the dance, a DVD was forwarded to schools so they could learn the dance steps.

This biennial festival will feature 9 days of dance in unusual spaces throughout the UK – shopping centers, parks, galleries, and lidos - showcasing the diversity of dance styles in the capital and across the country. Big Dance 2010 saw 850 events across the capital and 6-week countdown.

Location of the events are: Hong Bang secondary school (132 Hung Vuong, district 5, Ho Chi Minh City) and Le Loi secondary school (7 Ho Xuan Huong, Bac My An ward, Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang City)./.
