Largest FDI project in Hai Phong launched

VGP – Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai on July 2 attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Japan-based Bridgestone’s automobile tyre manufacturing plant in Dinh Vu Industrial Zone in northern Hai Phong port city.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy PM highlighted the city’s efforts in attracting foreign investment. In the first half of this year, the city drew the total investment of more than US$962 million, ranking second in the nation.

The Japenese giant’s choice to open a plant in Hai Phong showed the city’s rising attractiveness in luring FDI, he noted.

The US$575 million project, the biggest foreign-invested project so far in Hai Phong, is being built on around 102 ha.
The plant, which is scheduled to begin operation in early 2014, will create around 1,900 jobs. Its capacity is expected to reach 24,700 tires per day.

This is the fifth Japanese-funded project in Dinh Vu Industrial Zone. The industrial zone has attracted the total foreign investment to US$1.5 billion, 45% of which comes from Japanese investors.
