Lao Cai province greeted 968,970 tourist arrivals in 2011, a 9.1 percent increase from 2010, marking a successful year for its tourism sector, according toLao Cai Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
Of the total in 2011, the number of foreign tourists visiting Lao Cai was 439,620. Visitors from China (using travel cards) topped the list with 62,100 arrivals, up 82 percent from last year, while 529,350 domestic arrivals visited Lao Cai, a growth of 6 percent from 2010.
The province’s total tourism revenue reached over VND 1,356 billion in 2011, an increase of 64 percent compared to the previous year.
In 2012, Lao Cai will continue to focus on various measures to promote and develop the potential and strengths of local tourism in order to meet the target of attracting 980,000 visitors and gain revenue of VND 1,800 billion.
