VGP – Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải has agreed to extent the duration of the project "Supporting Implementation of Labor Laws and Promotion of Sound Industrial Relations in Việt Nam" for another six month since September 30, 2011.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) will pump an additional US $500,000 in non-refundable aid into the project.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs was assigned to implement the project.

The aim of the project is to enhance the implementation of legal documents on labor, and improve the capacity of labor inspectors and tripartite partners in labor relations in establishing and promoting sound industrial ties.

The activity will support a common vision for industrial relations among the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MOLISA), which plays a key role in designing labor policies and overseeing the implementation compliance with labor regulations, the Vietnamese General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), which is the country's official trade union, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

The project will help develop a national strategy on industrial relations promotion. It will train labor inspectors and improve data collection in collaboration with MoLISA.

VGCL will be given support in creating greater awareness of workers' rights.

An information campaign on laws and regulations will target workers, employers, the public, and the three key stakeholders -- MOLISA, VGCL, and VCCI.
