Khanh Hoa urged to become south central development hub

(VOV) - Khanh Hoa should do its best to fully tap its potential to develop its industry, tourism, marine and aviation services, and human resources, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung while working with provincial authorities on June 9.

In a report presented at the working session, Nguyen Chien Thang, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said thanks to the effective implementation of Conclusion 02 of the Party Politburo and the government’s Resolution 11, the province has achieved dramatic growth in industry, exports, tourism, and trade in the first five months of the year.

For instance, industrial production value increased by 17 percent, exports by 79 percent and retail sales of consumer products and services by 22 percent.

Most notably, Khanh Hoa cancelled 43 projects with a total capitalization of VND150 billion and saved VND26 billion from power consumption for production and daily life.

Provincial departments and agencies successfully controlled financial and banking activities as well as market prices, Thang said.

Speaking at the meeting, PM Dung asked the provincial authorities to take effective measures to achieve the targets set for 2011, including the growth rate of 12 percent.

The government leader also urged them to persist in curbing inflation, maintaining production, and ensuring social welfare.

Related departments and agencies should tighten controls on the market and prices of essential products such as food, foodstuff, and medicine and reduce public spending, Mr. Dung said, adding that Khanh Hoa should take full advantage of its potential to become a development hub in the south central region.

They should create favourable legal conditions for economic sectors to invest in infrastructure, especially roads, seaports, and airports.
