Japan’s grassroots-grant assistance fund awards money to a project to upgrade and extend Ngo May primary school

(CPV) - On December 16, 2011, at the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, the signing ceremony of the grassroots grant contract funded by the Government of Japan for project to upgrade and extend Ngo May primary school was held. The amount of the grant is 109,733 USD and the recipient organization is the Department of Education and Training of Duc Co District.

(CPV) - On December 16, 2011, at the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, the signing ceremony of the grassroots grant contract funded by the Government of Japan for project to upgrade and extend Ngo May primary school was held. The amount of the grant is 109,733 USD and the recipient organization is the Department of Education and Training of Duc Co District.

Ngo May primary school belongs to Ia Kla commune, Duc Co District, Gia Lai province, bordering with Cambodia with a population of 6,852 people and 1,640 households. The percentage of poor households is 30%. Jrai and others Ethnic minority people which account for 46% of the population are living here. Commune people earn their living by rice cultivation.

Ngo May primary school has 1 building with 4 classrooms constructed in 1993 and 1 building with 4 classrooms constructed in 1999, but 1 classroom constructed in 1993 was degraded and can not be used as a classroom, so the school use total 7 classrooms for learning in two shifts. Now the school has become seriously degraded, raising concerns about children’s safety.

Under this circumstance, Department of Education and Training of Duc Co District has planned to build a new building (2 floors 8 classrooms) in order to do away with shift learning to improve children’s learning facility. The Government of Japan has decided to grant aid to purchase necessary materials for the project.

At the ceremony, H.E. Mr. Yasuaki Tanizaki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Viet Nam, and Mr. Vo Cong Duong, Director of Department of Education and Training of Duc Co District, signed the grant contract.

“I hope that this project funded by the Government of Japan will contribute to social and economic development of region, the friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and Vietnam will be further deepened,” said Ambassador Tanizaki.
