Japanese telecom supplier invests in Vietnam

NTT Docomo INT (Docomo), Japan’s largest telecom service provider on August 10 announced that it has acquired a stake of 25 per cent in the VMG Media Joint Stock Company of Vietnam to expand the firm’s services in the Asian Pacific region.

The stake, worth approximately VND370 billion (about 1.4 billion JPY), represents Docomo’s first investment in Vietnam.

Established in 2006, VMG Media controls one-fourths of the mobile-phone contents market in Vietnam.

The Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Corporation (VNPT), the country’s largest telecom operator holds about 29 per cent of VMG’s share.

Docomo has invested in Indian and Republic of Korea companies. Through its investment in Vietnam , it intends speeding up its market expansion in the robustly growing mobile phone markets in Asia.
