VGP - The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will help the Southern province of Tien Giang to develop community-based tourism with an aim to boost rural economic development.

The assistance is part of a three-year project on heritage tourism aiming to bring into full play the important role of the community in sustainable development in Vietnam.

Under the project being implemented from February 2011 to February 2014, JICA has chosen three localities, namely ancient Duong Lam village (Hanoi), ancient Phuoc Tich village (Thua Thien Hue) and Dong Hoa Hiep village (Tien Giang).

Dong Hoa Hiep village near Tien River in Cai Be district is a typical traditional craft village and a unique eco-tourism destination in Tien Giang with old age houses and many crisscrossed canals running through beautiful landscape.

JICA will help the village improve basic infrastructure such as roads and ports, repair and refurbish ancient houses and assist local people to improve the quality of tourist products and services, and promote tourism and coordination between Dong Hoa Hiep and travel agents.

More than VND3.4 billion will be invested in restoring an old age house with unique architectural features and building two special roads for tourism with a total length of 738m.
