The owner of an Italian cruise ship involved in a collision near Ha Long Bay has agreed to a place a bond of VND6 billion while an investigation into the incident is carried out.

HA NOI – The owner of an Italian cruise ship involved in a collision near Ha Long Bay has agreed to a place a bond of VND6 billion (US$ 290.000) while an investigation into the incident is carried out.

According to Quang Ninh port authorities, the five-star cruise ship called the Silver Shadow with 350 international tourists onboard collided with Vietnamese vessel the An Phu Khang 07 cargo ship on March 16 in waters off the coast of Quang Ninh Province.

The collision, which was blamed on low visibility in foggy weather, occurred when the Italian vessel was on its way to Ha Long City port while the An Phu Khang 07 was travelling from Hai Phong to Quang Ninh city.

There were no injuries reported but the An Phu Khang 07 was damaged with a dent in its right side and a small hole in the cargo section of the ship.

According to director of the Quang Ninh Port Authority Ta Quang Viet, an investigation into the incident will take 30 to 40 days.

As previously scheduled, the Silver Shadow had departed to Hong Kong on March 17 and will return to Quang Ninh tomorrow. – VNS
