Int’l visitors to VN by sea soar

VGP – Vietnam welcomed more than 3.36 million of foreign arrivals in the first half of 2012, an increase of 13.9% against the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.

Of the figure, visitors traveling by air reached more than 2.8 million ones, up 14.2%. Especially, travelers by sea in the recent six months increased 46.7% against the same period last year.

Chinese tourists form the majority of foreign arrivals to Vietnam, followed by the Republic of Korea and Thailand.

In June alone, Vietnam attracted more than 417,000 travelers, down by 8.6% against May and 6.6% against the same period of 2011, due to global economic downturn.

Vietnam sets the target to lure 6.5 million turns of foreign tourists in 2012.
