The Mien Dong (Eastern) International University (EIU), invested by Becamex IDC Corporation, began its first academic year in the southern province of Binh Duong on October 3.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan praised EIU’s plan to cooperate with US and British universities to compile education and training programmes in accordance with the ABERT and AACSB international standards.
Mr. Nhan noted that the school should focus on training high-quality human resources to meet the developmental demands of the locality and neighbouring areas.
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Rector of EIU University, said the school is located on a 45ha area in the Binh Duong New Township. Twelve buildings with a total area of 68,592sq.m have been completed to serve teaching and management during the first period from 2011 to 2015).
The school has 24 well-equipped laboratories and 25 foreign teachers. In the first stage, it will train 720 students in fields such as business administration, science-technology and health care, Mr. Phuc noted.
The EIU has a cooperative relationship with the Vietnam National University in HCM City and Portland University in Oregon, USA. It aims to provide human resources for key economic zones, especially for the 12,000 domestic and foreign entrepreneurs in 28 industrial zones in Binh Duong province, he said.
