PANO - About 33 international diplomatic delegations and organisations took part in the Mekong River Delta Investment Promotion Conference, held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Southwest Region Steering Committee, on April 27 th in Can Tho City.
This event aimed to promote the region’s potentials and strengths as well as local policies on building infrastructure and new rural areas, improving human resources, conducting campaigns against climate change and managing water resource constructively. Through these, the organizers hoped that more foreign and domestic businesses will promote their investment in the Delta.
At the meeting, local authorities also issued 10 investment licences, worth VND 4.7 trillion, on housing, resorts, foods and construction.
On behalf of the delegations, Mr. Hideo Suzuki, a Japanese representative, said that Japan will continue to work jointly with the Mekong River Delta in particular and Vietnam in general, to deal with climate change, diseases and health problems.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh, Head of the Southwest Region Steering Committee, affirmed that ministries should associate with local provinces, cities and international organizations to take advantage of the region’s potentials and focus on planning traffic, education and production.
On the same day, the delegations joined the 37 th anniversary of the total liberation of South Vietnam, an exhibition on 10 years of development in the Mekong Delta and an art performance “Southwest-Achievements and Development”.
