HCM City's Department of Health and the HCM City Labour Confederation have begun to offer free health check-ups to 5,000 women workers at the Linh Trung Export Processing Zone in Thu Duc District at a cost of VND700 million (US$33,750).

The workers will have general health check-ups, ultra-sound, biopsies for cancer, gynecological, and other tests, and get free medicines worth VND50,000 – 150,000 under the month-long programme.

Those with serious illnesses will be transferred to hospitals in the city.

Foreign arrivals top 2.5 million year-to-date

Nearly 2.5 million foreign visitors have arrived in Viet Nam this year, 22.9 per cent higher than in the same period last year, official figures show.

The number of tourists accounted for nearly 1.5 million, a 23 per cent increase.

The number of Russian and South Korean visitors increased by half, while Malaysia, Japan, and China sent 23 to 28 per cent more people.

Ha Long carnival attracts 25% more patrons

The northern Quang Ninh Province welcomed nearly 500,000 visitors during the Carnival Ha Long 2012 (Ha Long – Quang Ninh Tourism Week 2012) from April 24 to May 2, 25 per cent higher than last year.

On April 30 more than 5,000 foreigners visited the town, according to Vu Thi Thu Thuy, vice chairwoman of the province People's Committee.
