(VOV) - People-to-people diplomacy plays an important role in the diplomatic front and the cause of national construction and defence.
The Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) held a conference in Hanoi on July 19 to promulgate its direction on renovating and improving people-to-people diplomacy in the new period.
After seventeen years of implementing the direction, people-to-people diplomacy has actively contributed to maintaining peace and stability, broadening friendship and cooperation and creating favourable conditions for the national process of renewal, construction and defence. It has helped improve the national prestige and position in the international arena, build trust and mutual understanding between Vietnam and other countries as well as contributing to the struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress.
Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and permanent secretary of the CPVCC praised ministries, departments, political and social organizations and people for effectively implementing the direction.
He emphasised that the Party and State always pay due attention to people-to-people diplomacy. The key task now is to broaden friendship and cooperation with other countries, especially important partners. Local Party and administration committees should make greater efforts in this front, Mr Sang said.
