Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, member of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Standing Committee and head of the city’s ideology department, was elected as Chairwoman of the People’s Council here on Wednesday.
She was voted with 91 ballots in favor among a total 94 during the first session of the new People’s Council, for the 2011-2016 tenure, to replace Ms. Pham Phuong Thao, who has retired.

The new People’s Council of the city had been voted via the National Election on May 22.
The Council’s first session also saw Ms. Truong Thi Anh re-elected as vice chairwoman for the five-year tenure. Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chin was voted a standing executive of the Council.
The current chairman of the city People’s Committee, Mr. Le Hoang Quan, was re-elected for the new tenure with almost 94% of votes in favor.

The Committee’s four elected vice chairpersons were Mr. Hua Ngoc Thuan, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Mr. Le Minh Tri, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tin and Mr. Le Manh Ha.
The People’s Council also made election for the positions of head and deputy head of the panels of economy, budget, culture, society, and law.
