The fire started on the afternoon of March 2 in Seo My Ty hamlet in Hoang Lien National Park, recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Park.
Provincial leaders have mobilized a huge number of policemen, soldiers, rangers, and people to extinguish the inferno.
Le Duc Luan, Chairman of the Sapa District People Committee said, “Our forces immediately rushed to the scene but have put only part of the fire under control due to uneven terrain and hot winds. The cause of fire is still under investigation.
Another forest fire broke out in Hoang Lien National Park, in February 2010. Thousands of hectares were seriously damaged.
