Huge fire burns ship with 20,000 liters of petrol

At 2am Monday a huge fire burnt down a ship transporting 20,000 liters of petrol on the Xang Canal in the southern province of Bac Lieu’s ward 8.

At first, a barge transporting rocks suffered from a fire.

10 minutes later, the fire spread to a boat 30 meters way that is transporting petrol, burning it down.

According to captain Dang Van Thuyen, deputy head of a local fire prevention team, the burnt ship was carrying 20,000 liters of petrol.

A ship crew member was seriously burnt.

The fire was nearly 20 meters high

Five fire trucks and over 30 police officers arrived at the scene to subdue the roaring flame.

It took nearly 45 minutes to control the fire.

At 8.30pm the same day, senior lieutenant colonel Nguyen Van Tam, deputy head of the provincial fire prevention police force said the owner of the boat is still unknown.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are under examination.
