Host of activities for Europe Day nationwide

Tomorrow’s Europe Day, which celebrates the European Union’s intellectual and cultural traditions, will see a number of events nationwide this month including performances in HCMC, Hanoi, Danang and Binh Dinh Province.

Tomorrow’s Europe Day, which celebrates the European Union’s intellectual and cultural traditions, will see a number of events nationwide this month including performances in HCMC, Hanoi, Danang and Binh Dinh Province.

Highlights of the festival include a performance by Germans Notos Quartet tomorrow and Thursday followed by gigs from British group Black Voices on May 21 and French electronic rock outfit Success on May 30.

The European Union of National Institutes for Culture will hold European Literature Day at the National Library of Vietnam in Hanoi on Friday, introducing books from Italy, Spain, Wallonia-Brussels (Belgium), Germany, Britain, Denmark and Poland, which have recently been translated into Vietnamese.

The event opens at 6 p.m., followed by a prize ceremony for writing and drawing contest ‘Mr. Gum’ by the U.K Ambassador. The British Council will invite Brit writer Andy Stanton to introduce his most recent book of the Mr. Gum series and talk with young readers.

There will be a discussion group for young writers, another with translators and editors discussing bringing foreign literature to Vietnam.

This year, the program will be extended into Danang and Binh Dinh as well as Hanoi and HCMC.

The EuroCham Food Festival will be held at the National Library at 31 Trang Thi Street in Hanoi at 6 p.m. on May 26 with the participation of many hotels. The program has kids’ games and music shows.

EU ambassadors will talk with Vietnamese students about European culture in seminar ‘Reaching out to Youth’ in HCMC and in Binh Dinh on May 16 and 17, respectively.

Talks on EU-Vietnam Trade Relations will take place in Binh Dinh and HCMC on May 16 and 18 and ‘Can Women Perform Better Leadership in Politics’ discussion will be held in Hanoi on May 22 and HCMC on May 29.

The European Film Festival will take place in Hanoi, HCMC and Danang from May 16 to 31, screening 15 films, plus a short film night for children.
