HA NOI – The first Hollywood 3D animated film dubbed in Vietnamese, Rio, will be presented on April 8.

The project, between Viet Nam's Megastar Media Company and the US Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, will target Vietnamese audiences who can't read the film's subtitles, especially children and the elderly, said Megastar CEO Brian Hall.

Directed by Carlos Saldanha, the film tells a story of Blu, a macaw, who leaves the comforts of his cage in small-town Minnesota and heads for Rio de Janeiro. He embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, learning to open himself up to all that life has to offer along the way.

The film is dubbed by 10 Vietnamese speakers, including Minh Hang, Minh Tiep and Dai Nghia. The original film has the voices of Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway and George Lopez.

Two other Hollywood films, Finding Nemo and Open Season, were dubbed by Vietnamese but this is the first time for a 3D film.

Director Saldanha selected the artists to dub the film. The process was directed and supervised by the Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.

It cost VND1 billion (US$48,000) to dub the film but there is no difference in the ticket price. - VNS
