The 6.3-MW power plant will be equipped by China’s Sinoma Energy Conservation with US$8.85-million worth of machinery using loans from Standard Chartered Bank, the cement producer said at a press briefing after the signing ceremony in HCMC.

The Standard Chartered loan also includes US$10 million for maintenance services, the director of Holcim Vietnam’s Sustainable Development Department, Nguyen Cong Minh Bao, told the Daily by phone after the news briefing.

The waste heat recovery project will start next month and shall be ready for operation in August 2012. With an output capacity of 44 million kWh per year, the power plant will be enough to serve Hon Chong Cement Factory for 88 days of operation or 18,300 households, said Gerhard Schutz, general director of Holcim Vietnam.

He added this also means Holcim Vietnam will save 9,000 tons of coal or 6,500 tons of HFO oil per year and reduce 25,300 tons of carbon dioxide.
