The first free Wi-Fi system was launched on March 28 by Hoi An Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage City, as part of efforts to boost tourism.

With the total investment of VND 25 billion from social fund, the wireless system covers the whole ancient town through 350 stations.
The system paves the way for tourists and local residents to surf free Internet at the speed of 256Mb per second.
Hoi An City became the first locality in Vietnam providing free-of-charge Internet, marking an initial step to convert Việt Nam into an powerful IT country in 2020.
