Hoi An Day to take place in Ho Chi Minh City

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, in conjunction with relevant units, will host “Hoi An Day in Ho Chi Minh City” for the first time on February 10-11 to celebrate 40 years since the establishment of the Society of Hoi An Fellow – Countrymen in HCMC.

The opening ceremony of the 2-day “Hoi An Day in Ho Chi Minh City” event, which features the ancient town of Hoi An, will be at 4:30pm on February 10 at Dong Ho Area at 16A Le Hong Phong Street in District 10.

The event, aiming to promote the cultural values of the ancient town, will include exhibitions featuring historical photos, documents and objects related to the development process of sites in the town such as the three-door temple gate and green moss roof.

A culinary program introducing the city’s specialties like cao lau, mi Quang, hen tron and yen sao together with classes teaching calligraphy and pottery, as well as a music extravaganza, will all be held at the festival.

Especially, the program to re-enact a 20 th Century Hoi An Ancient Night will have visitors joining in with many unique folk games of Quang Nam, including bai choi (Bingo-in-huts), dap nieu (breaking pots), danh co (playing chess), thu phap (learning to write calligraphy) and others.

“Hoi An Day in Ho Chi Minh City” will end on the evening of February 11 with a music night titled Tinh que (Love of Homeland) with the participation of the artists whose names are connected with the ancient city, such as Phan Huynh Dieu, Vu Duc Sao Bien musicians and Anh Tuyet, Tan Dao, Thuy Long, and the Vy Thao singers./.
