VietNamNet Bridge – The State-owned Cuu Long Transport Infrastructure Management, Investment and Development Corporation has dismissed the managing director and reprimanded the deputy general director of the Trung Luong Highway project.

In a quick report to the Ministry of Transport, the corporation’s general director Duong Tuan Minh said that he dismissed managing director La Chi Duc and chided deputy general director Do Ngoc Dung, who is in charge of the Trung Luong highway project.
The corporation also reprimanded Nguyen Huy Thao, director and Le Van Ngoan, deputy director of the Center for Temporary Management of HCM City-Trung Luong Highway.
According to the corporation, potholes on the highway are not caused by the foundation nor design but the poor quality of several batches of concrete. The corporation has repaired the road surface as of November 15, by taking off the surface concrete layer to replace by a new layer.
Earlier, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang instructed Cuu Long Corporation to suspend managing director La Chi Duc for considering his responsibility for potholes on Trung Luong highway, which has opened for traffic for only one year.
The HCM City-Trung Luong highway project was kicked off in December 2004 and opened for traffic in February 2010. The road is 62km long, including 39.8km of express way. The road connects HCM City to Long An and Tien Giang provinces. Total investment in this project is nearly VND10 trillion (over $500 million).
The 9.6km Tan Tao-Cho Dem and 2.2km Binh Thuan-Cho Dem sections were opened for traffic on February 3, 2010. After only two months, the two sections were sunk. Being repaired, the two sections of road continue to sinking.
In August 2011, big holes and cracks appeared on the section passing Long An province. Many fences which were hit by trucks are not replaced yet. PV
