Hanoi woman wins British Council design award

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, head of a Hanoi-based handbag export firm, has won the British Council’s International Young Design Entrepreneur Award 2011 for young talents in the design industry.

Lan, 32, who runs the Lan Viet Fashion Co Ltd, wins the VND15 million (US$722) cash prize and a trip to the UK in September to represent Vietnam in the Young Design Entrepreneur international competition.

She will also participate in the prestigious London Fashion Week and London Design Festival during her trip.

The first runner-up was Ngo Thai Uyen, a famous designer who owns the NTU Design label, and the second runner-up was Dang Vo, founder of Brandbox, a Ho Chi Minh City-based brand development agency.

Now in its third year, the British Council’s design award was expected to help Vietnam’s design talents to develop their creativity and unique identity, Alison Ball, its head, said.
