(VOV) - A man poured petrol on his body and burned himself to death on An Duong Vuong Street in Hanoi’s Tay Ho District in front of hundreds of passers-by on the afternoon of January 3.
Witnesses said the young man was riding an Attila bike on the street when he suddenly stopped, poured petrol all over his body, and set fire to himself.
The man was seen struggling in the fire, then fell to the pavement and died.
A witness said he saw the man while he was walking on the street.
“I shouted so that everyone could come to help, but it was too late,” he said.
Later, Phu Thuong Ward’s police and local residents used two powder extinguishers to put out the fire.
At the scene of the accident, investigators collected documents left on the man’s bike, including a passport.
Last October, 40-year-old Do Van Nam in Hanoi’s Long Bien District burned himself to death and set his house on fire after having a fight with his wife.
He died before the police and firefighters could come to the rescue.
