Hanoi will have an additional 3.5 million square meters of housing and 100 per cent of its urban population will have access to running water in 2011, according to the Hanoi Construction Department.
Over the past few years, Hanoi has developed more than 10.6 million square meters of housing and has taken the lead among nationwide localities in building housing projects for social beneficiaries like hostels for students and low-income people.
The City is now building 40 urban areas and a number of high-class multi-floor towers.
For safe water supply, the department affirmed that all urban households in the City will have been supplied with running water by the end of the year. At present, the rate is 96-97 per cent.
As the population and vehicles on the road are increasing, the department has planned to build more roads to ease traffic congestion, and by 2015, roads in Hanoi will make up 10-12 per cent of the total area and at least two urban railway routes will be operational, according to its plan.
