Hanoi announces results of 2011-2016 People’s Council election

Ngo Thi Doan Thanh, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi municipal Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Hanoi municipal People's Council, on May 27 announced the list of 95 elected candidates for the 2011-2016 term of the municipal People’s Committee.

Of the 95 elected candidates, 23 are female, one is from an ethnic minority group, one is a dignitary and seven are non-Party members.

In Hanoi, 99.37 percent of voters cast their ballots in 30 constituencies to elect the appropriate number of candidates in each constituency.

Candidates who won the highest number of votes (over 80 percent) included Nguyen The Thao, Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee; Ngo Thi Doan Thanh, Chairwoman of the Hanoi municipal People's Council; Hoang Cong Khoi, Secretary of the Hoan Kiem district Party Committee; Nguyen Quoc Anh, Director of Back Mai Hospital; Nguyen Ngoc Thach, Secretary of the My Duc district Party Committee; Pham Van Cham, Chairman of the Dong Anh district People’s Committee, and Nguyen Quoc Hung, Director of the Hanoi municipal Department for Transport.

The lowest number of votes for an elected candidate was 52.42 percent. Two self-nominated candidates were not elected.

The first meeting of the Hanoi municipal People's Council in the 2011-2016 term will be held at the end of June.
