Hanoi T&T remain on top of the V-League with 23 points after a 1-0 home win at Hang Day Stadium over Saigon FC in a 12th round match last Sunday.

The visitors from Ho Chi Minh City are a strong squad but the 2010 champions put in a spirited performance and deserved to win via an early goal by winger Van Quyet.

Both sides created lots of scoring chances but custodians Duong Hong Son for the hosts and Bui Tan Truong for the visitors did a great job.

Tan Truong saved two powerful shots from Samson Kayode and Damian Marronkle while Hong Son stopped two shots from Dang Van Robert and Huynh Kesley Alves.

Saigon FC were weakened by the absence of Antonio Carlos, Nguyen Rogerio and Christian Nsi.

After three consecutive losses, Saigon FC, who were on top of the league in the 9th and 10th rounds, are currently in the fifth position.

Playing in heavy rains brought into the southern region by a storm, hosts Binh Duong and Hoang Anh Gia Lai struggled at the Go Dau Stadium. With striker Anh Duc and midfielder Huu Thang unable to play because of previous match bookings, 2007-08 champions Binh Duong ended up losing 1-2 to 2003-04 champs Hoang Anh Gia Lai.

After a 1-0 away win over Khanh Hoa last week, Thanh Hoa continued to play well and took a 4-0 victory over visitors Dong Thap from the Mekong Delta.

On Saturday, 2009 champs Da Nang earned a 3-0 home win at Chi Lang Stadium over Ninh Binh to jump three places to second spot with 20 points.

Hai Phong are still languishing at the bottom with seven points after being held 1-1 at home by visitors Hanoi FC at Lach Tray Stadium.

On Friday, reigning champs Song Lam Nghe An climbed one place to third place after a 3-1 home win at Vinh Stadium over Khanh Hoa. They now have the same 20 points as Da Nang, but the latter are ahead on goal differences.

Kien Long Kien Giang with 10 points are just above Hai Phong despite a 1-3 away defeat to Navibank Saigon at Ho Chi Minh City’s Thong Nhat Stadium.
