During the launch ceremony and reception of the assistance for Hanoi’s Fund for the poor in 2011 held by the Vietnam Fatherland Front on November 8, 156 organizations and individuals committed to donate VND 106.318 billion for the poor.
This practical activity is in response to “The Month for the poor” which lasts from October 17 th to November 18 th .
Over the past ten years, organizations and individuals donated over VND 140 billion, which have been spent on repairing over 20,000 inadequate houses, supporting production and providing medical treatment for the poor, and helping their children go to school.
In 2009 and 2010 alone, the fund, together with the city budget, supported the building and repairing of 7,467 houses for the poor.
In the first ten months of 2011, the city fund for the poor mobilized over VND 15 billion, assisting 15,800 poor families with loans for production and housing repairs.
The fund has supported 19 poor families’ children who needed heart disease treatment with financial aid totaling VND 971 billion, and given non-interest loans worth VND to boost production to over 1,000 poor families.
At present, the city People’s Committee and Fatherland Front is carrying out the building of 3,780 houses for the poor with a capital of over VND 94 billion.
During the meeting, Hanoi City Fatherland Front President Dao Van Binh called on sectors, enterprises, organizations and people to actively respond to the Day for the poor and the city’s social welfare programs, helping the poor escape poverty.
Vietnam Fatherland Front President Huynh Dam also sent a letter encouraging organizations, individuals and enterprises across the country to join hands to help the poor.
