Hai Duong City names streets after army’s heroes

Veterans join the ceremony to name streets

PANO – The former Dong Trieu base’s liaison board has cooperated with the People’s Committee of Le Thanh Nghi Ward (Hai Duong City), Hai Duong province to decide names of streets after the names of heroes of the Army on the 57th anniversary of City’s Liberation Day (October 30th, 1954).

Following is brief information of the heroes.

Lieutenant-General Nguyen Binh, Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, a native of Tinh Tien Commune (Giai Pham today), Yen My District of Hung Yen Province, was former Commander of the Dong Trieu base, Chief of Area No.7, Head of Southern High Command. He participated in the national resistance war at the age of 16 and became the first Lieutenant-General of the Vietnam People’s Army the first officer in the whole army to receive the First-Class Military Feat Order.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai was born in Thanh Binh Commune, Thanh Ha District, Hai Duong Province. He was former Member of Judge Committee, under the People’s Supreme Court and Tribunal President of Criminal Court 1. He was one of the founders of Dong Trieu revolutionary base and leaders of the uprising to wrest power in Dong Trieu and Chi Linh, Hai Duong. He was awarded the First-Class Victory Order and the First-Class Independence Order.

Martyr Vu Manh Hung, of Xuan Vinh Commune, Xuan Truong District of Nam Dinh Province, used to be Commander of Regiment 48, under Division 316 of the Military Zone 2. He was bestowed posthumously the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces”, Third-Class Military Feat Order and Second-Class Victory Order.

To acknowledge the heroes’ great contributions to the national revolutionary cause, especially to the insurrections in Dong Trieu-Chi Linh areas and in establishing Tran Hung Dao revolutionary base, the Hai Duong Provincial People’s Committee decided to name local streets after three heroes to remind the younger generation of the heroic tradition and to show gratitude to the heroes.
