(VOV) - The international chess tournament HD Bank Cup 2012 will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from March 2-7 with the participation of nearly 100 players from 15 countries.
This will be the largest international chess tourney held by Vietnam as part of FIDE’s competition system, according to a press briefing in HCMC on February 22.
Contestants at the event, coming from China, India, Russia, the UK, Australia, Singapore, Ukraine, and other countries, will compete in nine rounds in the Swiss system tournament.
The HD Bank tournament has becoming increasingly high quality, attracting more and more competitors from around the globe.
This year’s event offers prizes worth up to US$30,000 in total.
Dang Tat Thang, Vice President of the Vietnam Chess Federation, said the federation will post the event’s competitions live on the websites: www.chess.com.vn and www.chess.hdbank.com.vn .
Also on February 22, grandmaster Le Quang Liem played friendship chess games with chess fans in the one versus 20 format to ‘warm up’ the HD bank tournament.
