Ho Chi Minh City wants to learn from Singapore’s experience in urban management, education and its development of science and technologies as it faces unprecedented levels of traffic congestion, has limited opportunity to develop human resources and needs to improve its global competitiveness.

The Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee, Le Thanh Hai, stated this at a reception for Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam in HCM City on April 25.

Hai said that HCM City highly values the Singaporean leaders’ vision and strategies after turning the island state into a financial, maritime and educational centre.

The municipal leader also informed his guest of the increasingly deep and effective cooperation in investment, trade, tourism, and education and training between HCM City and Singapore . This can be seen by the number of Singaporean businesses that invest in the city, with currently over 500 projects worth more than 6 billion USD.

President Yam said he is willing to cooperate and share Singapore ’s experiences in urban management, traffic control, and water and sewage treatments with Vietnam .

He added that more Singaporean businesses want to invest in the city, the country’s largest trading hub and expand their operations to other localities.

Later the same day, President Yam and his delegation visited the Riviera Point project in District 7, developed by Keppel Land Company which is an affiliate of Singapore ’s Keppel Group. The company operates 18 projects worth nearly 2 billion USD in Vietnam. -VNA
