The regional award for Asia’s Leading Conference Hotel is the highest honor ever received by a hotel in Vietnam and has been awarded to some of Asia’s most well-known properties, The Saigon Times Daily reported.

Over 17,000 experts voted to honor excellence in Asian tourism, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The votes were based on training programs for staff, business operations and customer satisfaction.

Described as the “Oscars” of the global travel and tourism industry, the 16th World Travel Awards, took place on the eve of this year's World Travel Market (WTM).

WTM 2009, held from November 9 to 12, is the largest and most important business to business event for the international travel and tourism industry. It is held annually in London.

Located at the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, the five-star Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers includes 472 hotel rooms, studios, and suites, eight restaurants and bars as well as convention facilities which can cater up to 1,200 guests at a sitting.

Sheraton is a brand of U.S.-based Starwood Hotels and Resort Worldwide, one of the world’s biggest hotel groups with a network of 942 hotels and resorts in 100 countries and territories.

Its Hanoian counterpart, the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel, received the Vietnam’s Leading Business Hotel award for the third consecutive year.

This year’s award for Vietnam’s Leading Resort went to the Evason Ana Mandara Resort in central Nha Trang.
