Gold prices set new record

(VOV) - Global gold prices were listed at US$1,832-US$1,833/oz at 8.25.am on August 19.

The New York Security Exchange experienced a sharp increase in transactions immediately after SDPR Gold Trust had purchased 15 tonnes of gold to raise its reserve from 1,271 tonnes to 1,286 tonnes.

The rise in gold prices was attributed to the increase of 0.5 percent in the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) in July, the Morgan Stanley’s gloomy prediction for the world economic growth, the public debt crisis in some European countries, and the slump in the securities market.

At the same time, domestic gold prices rose VND1 million per tael over the previous day to about VND46.35-46.65 million per tael as seen at SJC jewelry shops in both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
