The Hanoitimes - In Hanoi , the governments of Vietnam and Germany co-hosted a workshop titled “Urban development, urban transport and energy efficient construction” on the sideline of the visit of Mr. Jan Mücke - the Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Construction and Urban Development. Vietnam 's continuously high economic growth rate and a rapid urbanization pose significant challenges to urban infrastructure development. Sustainable urban development is therefore a key area of Vietnamese-German cooperation. The one-day workshop attracts a delegation from the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Construction and Urban Development and leading Vietnamese policy makers from the Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Transport and experts from central and local management agencies, academic- and research institutions, professional associations, as well as consulting- and construction companies. The German side is interested in exchanging experiences with Vietnamese experts, setting itself the long-term goal to strengthen Vietnamese-German co-operation as well as sharing German knowledge and know-how while tightening Vietnamese-German trade ties. The participants discuss the challenges and opportunities facing urban development in Vietnam and identified the common roadblocks to effective sector policy coordination in urban areas. Thematic sessions focus on key Vietnamese urban development issues like energy efficiency, transportation safety and sustainability, as well as the quality of buildings and infrastructure. This workshop opens a dynamic and continuous knowledge exchange on urban development practices and presents an good opportunity for the two nations to foster synergistic collaboration for a more sustainable future.
