German symphony orchestra to perform in Vietnam

The Northeast German Philharmonic Orchestra will perform next month at an annual concert Toyota Motor sponsors in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Toyota Classics 2011 concert will see some celebrated works, including Bizet’s “Carmen,” performed by the orchestra under the baton of Thomas Dorsch.

Talented young Vietnamese soprano Pham Thi Duyen Huyen will also perform on the night.

The orchestra, formed in 1993, has performed around Germany and in Sweden, Spain, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, and Poland.

Toyota Classics, began in 1997 with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism’s Performing Arts Center, has been a popular draw in Vietnam.

It seeks to offer Vietnamese music teachers and students the opportunity to learn from the world’s top orchestras.

Ticket proceeds go to the Toyota Scholarship for Vietnamese Young Music Talents fund.
The concert is scheduled for 8pm on November 3 at the Opera House in District 1.

Tickets costing VND300,000 to VND800,000 are available at the venue.
