The four best players in the men’s and women’s finals of the South East Asia Table Tennis Championships-VOV Cup have been chosen after exciting semi-final matches on September 12.
In the women’s event, world No.19, Yu Meng Yu from Singapore, easily defeated Thailand’s Anisara Muang Suk in five sets 11-9, 11-8, 11-3, 5-11 and 11-7.
In another match, Thailand’s top player, Nathana Komwong, beat Beh Lee Wei from Malaysia 11-13, 11-6, 12-10, 11-9 and 11-8.
In men’s event, Phan Huy Hoang had the advantage when he thrashed world No.17 Gao Ninh from Singapore, in the first two sets 11-7 and 11-9 but failed to win the match after successive losses in the last four sets 12-10, 15-13, 11-8 and 11-7.
Observers of the remaining match enjoyed a fierce competition between two players from the host team, Dinh Quang Linh and Tran Tuan Quynh. Linh narrowly won his place at the final after his difficult 4-3 win over Quynh.
