GE Vietnam joins hand in volunteer activities for a better ASEAN community

PANO - GE Vietnam hosts its sixth annual GE Movie Night on July 7 in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Children at Ha Cau (Hanoi) and Binh Loi (HCMC) foster centers will be joined by GE staff and volunteers to take part in a varied series of activities that will demonstrate the company’s commitment to fostering a strong link with local communities in Vietnam. The program has been organized as part of GE Global Community Day, a coordinated series of events taking place across the ASEAN region on the same day.

Ms. Nguyen My Lan, CEO of GE Vietnam, shared: “The success of previous volunteer events encouraged us to continue assisting disadvantaged children. We look forward to supporting center leaders in educating and encouraging children and to help them feel love and compassion.”

Around 40 children, along with their families and GE employees, will participate in games directed by a volunteer team from Vong Tay Be Ban (Hanoi) and students from the University of Technology (HCMC). Afterwards they will eat dinner then watch the move at Megastar Vincom Tower (Hanoi) and Megastar Hung Vuong Plaza (HCMC).

Additionally, GE will donate practical gifts such as printers to the centers and present learning tools and special awards to young students who have achieved academic excellence in the last semester.

The choice of film for this year’s Movie Night was carefully thought out. Madagascar 3 relays the adventures of a group of four hilarious animals, including the Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo and Melman the Giraffe. Not only is the film fun, it also teaches meaningful lessons about friendship, sacrifice and courage and how they can be used to overcome difficulties. GE is confident the movie’s message will stand children in good stead for challenges within their own lives.

Global Community Day is one of GE’s large-scale volunteer programs and is held on the same day at locations around the world. GE Vietnam’s Movie Night will be one of many volunteer events taking place around the ASEAN region as the company affirms its commitment to forging better communities.
