The proceeds of over VND300 million (more than US$17,500) raised from the Sep. 6 Phu My Bridge fun run in Ho Chi Minh City was handed over to the Vietnam Fatherland Front and charity Loreto Vietnam on Sep. 9.
The handover ceremony was held at the cable-stayed bridge, which spans over the Saigon River to link District 2 and District 7. The bridge was inaugurated on Sep. 2 National Day and opened to traffic Sep. 9.

Over 3,000 participants took part in the fundraising fun run. Describing it, Phu My Bridge Corporation chairman Nguyen Thanh Thai said, “The event was extremely successful, raising much needed funds for charity and providing all participants with a great opportunity to celebrate the opening of the Phu My Bridge.”
“We hope to make this an annual event,” he added.
Charity Loreto Vietnam, whose full name is the Loreto Vietnam-Australia Program, started operations in 1997 as a registered non-government organization in HCM City. So far, the organization has partnered with the city’s Department of Education and Training and the Women’s Charity Association HCM City in carrying nine education development and community projects.
