A meeting attended by representatives from nearly 150 foreign direct investment enterprises to solve difficulties in foreign labour administration was held in HCM City on Thursday.
HCM CITY –
The event, jointly organised by the municipal Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the HCM City Police Immigration Office, aimed at providing enterprises with regulations related to foreigners working in and visiting Viet Nam.
Colonel Nguyen Van Anh, head of the Immigration Office, said regulations were quite open, allowing foreigners to come to the country to do business, but many of them took use of this loophole to carry out illegal operations such as drug and human trafficking, fraud and robbery.
Anh added that a large number of foreign criminals commited crimes by disguising themselves as foreign direct investors or by getting married to Vietnamese women. The number hit a record of 1,500 last year compared to 1,100 in 2010.
The colonel also discussed solutions in regard to foreign employees.
Legal companies are allowed to hire foreign workers to work in Viet Nam while co-operating with relevant agencies to handle problems and guaranteeing the financial security of employees, Anh said.
He added that the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs should take note of unemployed foreigners and take responsible for withdrawing their work permits and residence cards. — VNS
