Foreign crew to film Hanoi turtle documentary

Franco-German TV network Arte hopes to make a documentary about the legendary Vietnamese turtle in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem (Returned Sword) Lake, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Foreign Press Centre.

The film crew will stay in Vietnam from April 23 to May 11 to shoot a 45-minute documentary with support from the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology, representatives from the Asian Turtle Program, and the Vietnamese Steering Committee that was set up to rescue the elderly creature last year.

The working title of the film is either “The Legend of Hoan Kiem Lake” or “The Quest for the Turtle Lord.”

Luck Woflgang, the film’s director, is seeking the copyrights to use videos on the treatment for the legendary turtle made by the local press last year.

Turtle expert Ha Dinh Duc, a member of the committee that rescued the turtle, said that the Italian La7 TV Channel has also contacted him about making another documentary to raise awareness of the environment through the story of the turtle.
