The Vietnam Football Federation Thursday slapped a fine of VND2.4 billion (US$120,000) on midfielder Hoang Danh Ngoc and suspended him 18 months for training with another club in violation of his contract with Nam Dinh.

Ngoc, 21, is contracted with Nam Dinh until 2013 but at the end of last season, he failed to turn up for training and was instead found training with Vietnam’s top-tier V-League club Ninh Binh.
The player with his clever left leg deserted Nam Dinh after they were relegated to the First Division at the end of last year.
The VFF said the fine was to recompense Nam Dinh for the money it had spent on training Ngoc.
Ninh Binh managing director Pham Van Le admitted his club expect to sign Ngoc after a possible legal battle and are willing pay the fine.
“We knew in advance he would be fined.
“We will pay the fine for Ngoc if he agrees to a five-year contract since the amount is too high.”
Ngoc said he will appeal for a mitigation.
