Five more foreign players have been granted Vietnamese citizenship to play in the second leg of the topflight V-League and First Division.

They include Brazil's Marcelo Barbieri playing for Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Wandwasi Rodgers (Uganda – Thanh Hoa), Jonathan Quartey (Ghana – Ha Noi ACB), Thierry Ngale (Cameroon – Song Lam Nghe An) and Amaobi Uzowuru (Nigeria – Binh Dinh).
They are now called Doan Marcelo, Nguyen Van Rodgers, Le Van Tan, Le Hoang Phat Thierry and Dang Amaobi, respectively.
They all have lived in Viet Nam for at least five years and met other Vietnamese citizenship requirements.
At present, there are 18 naturalised players playing in Viet Nam, of whom 15 players play for eight clubs in V-League and three play for three First Division's clubs.
Ninh Binh currently tops the table for former foreign players, with three naturalised players on its books.
Former V-League team Dong Tam Long An's Fabio Dos Santos was the first foreign football player to be granted Vietnamese citizenship, but has only made a single appearance for the national team during a friendly against Olympic Brazil in 2008. — VNS
