The park will promote technology transfer, research and training and invite investment from companies with expertise in hi-tech agricultural applications.
VietNamNet Bridge - The nation’s first hi-tech agricultural park will open in HCM City this April, providing local farmers with the opportunity to apply the latest advances to increase their yield and profits.
The 88.17ha park in Cu Chi District has already approved investments from three local companies and another applications are awaiting approval.
Nguyen Trung Tin, deputy chairman of the city People’s Committee, has asked the park management board and related agencies to complete policies for attracting investment from domestic and foreign investors.
The three investors that have already received approval are: Nhiet Doi (Tropical) Investment Joint-stock Co with an investment of VND162 billion, Chanh Phong Agriculture Co Ltd with VND9 billion and Viet Thuî Phat Fresh Vegetable Co Ltd (for whom investment figures have not yet been released).
While the first two companies will produce many varieties of vegetable seeds including chillies, the last one will produce fresh vegetables in greenhouses using European technology.
Tran Phuoc Dung, director the park’s management board, said the selected investors were highly capable and would contribute significantly to restructuring the city’s agricultural sector and promoting hi-tech agriculture.
Dr Duong Hoa Xo, director of the city’s Biotechnology Centre, called for strict oversight on the financial capacity and technological know-how of potential investors in order to "minimise the possibility of land speculation".
Phan Minh Tan, director of the city’s Department of Science and Technology said one way to attract more investors was for the Government to issue detailed guidelines for the development of hi-tech agriculture.
