Jose Statham from New Zealand earned the championship title and a cash prize of US$1,300 at the first 2012 Tanimex Men’s Futures Cup, which closed in Ho Chi Minh City on April 8.
A team from India won the double event and took home more than US$600.
The second 2012 Men’s Futures tourney will take place at the Hoang Thien Club in District 8 from April 9-15 and the third tournament will be held at the Phu Tho Club from April 16-24.
Nguyen Van Ngoan, Deputy General Director of the Tanimex Company and deputy head of the organizing board, said Ho Chi Minh City has not organized such a professional tournament for a long time.
He added that Minh Quan passed the qualifying round while doubles team Minh Quan and Quoc Khanh got as far as the semi-finals. This is a good result for Vietnamese athletes because they are often knocked out in the qualifying rounds of international tournaments.
