(CPV) - Right after the heartbreaking moments at the 26th SEA Games, Vietnamese fans are very happy to welcome the news about Vietnam’s FIFA ranking.

Following that, Vietnam has risen the most of any AFC nation in December 2011, climbing 35 places to 99th position in the FIFA rankings. This is also the first time ever Vietnam tops the ASEAN region in the table.

Vietnam's great jump in the FIFA ranking table is helped by three victories (one against Qatar and two against Macau) in World Cup 2014 qualifiers. These wins earned us 272 points, more points than Thailand have earned for last 4 years.

In the meanwhile, Thailand ranks 122th position in the list (2nd in the Southeast Asia) and Indonesia is listed as 142th position (3rd in the Southeast Asia). So, Vietnamese national football is back in the top 100 after 7 years.

The best movers in the list include Samoa (climbs 55 places), Vietnam (35 places) and Tonga (26 places).

Earlier, Vietnam ranked 96th position in the world (in September 2004) and its highest ever position was 84th (in September 1998). By gaining this title, Vietnamese fans hope to see more remarkable achievements by the national team in 2012.

On the world level, Spain still ranks top with 1564 points, while the Netherlands and Germany are behind with 1365 points and 1345 points, respectively./.
