(VOV) - The Government is not encouraging the export of natural resources, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
Mr Dung made this affirmation at a cabinet meeting on November 5 on the draft strategy and action plan for minerals until 2020, with a vision to 2030, where he asked the relevant ministries to draw up decrees and guidelines for implementing the Law on Minerals.
The Government leader asked relevant authorities to tighten licensing procedures and inspect licensed projects. The PM will introduce a direction to rectify the management of minerals as soon as possible.
Some cabinet members proposed measures to manage mineral exploitation such as a detailed plan introducing criteria for using high technology in the exploitation and processing of minerals, strengthening inspections, strict punishments for violators, and increasing export taxes on minerals.
There are several shortcomings in managing minerals in Vietnam including outdated technologies that lead to the loss of minerals, environmental pollution, illegal exploitation and exports, and unsafe working conditions.
