‘People and the miracle of cacao,’ featuring the landscapes and people of Venezuela, will open on Tuesday at the Vietnamese Culture and Arts Exhibition Center as part of Venezuelan Culture Week in Vietnam.

The exhibition will introduce to Vietnamese art lovers lively images of daily life of Barlovento people during cacao harvest season via photos by artist Laila Chemekh Saab. Saab took the pictures during three years living with locals in Barlovento region whose is steeped in growing cacao.

From the traditional method of cutting and pasting pictures, Saad cuts, divides and selects portraits, landscapes and traditional objects and makes them into artworks. These pictures create a visual effect for visitors to understand more about the crafts of growing cacao, and making baskets.

Apart from Saab’s contribution, there is another exhibition on craft products of Venezuela such as typical products of cacao and special handicraft and fine-art products such as masks, puppets, brocades, decorating carpets and sculptures.

Through the exhibition, Vietnamese people will have a glimpse into Venezuelan culture with Yekuanas black baskets, traditional Tzu Tzu bags and wooden toys. The show also features statues of goddesses, Yares masks which represent the belief of its people and drums which are symbolic with the nation’s union with African countries.

The show runs until Saturday at the center, 2 Hoa Lu Street in Hanoi.
