EVN chairman vacancy yet to be filled

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has yet to decide who will take over the chairman’s seat at Electricity Group of Vietnam (EVN), Deputy Minister Nguyen Nam Hai said at a press meeting Monday.

The post of chairman at EVN, the country’s power monopoly, was left unfilled earlier this week following the sacking of Dao Van Hung, EVN’s former chairman , under whose control EVN incurred massive losses of billions of US dollars.

Hung will be transferred to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and is said to become the deputy head of the General Department of Energy.

However, Hai said the ministry “has yet to make up its mind on where Hung will sit.”

While EVN CEO Pham Le Thanh is said to be a potential successor for Hung, Hai said that this was just one option under consideration.

Regarding the exact losses caused by EVN’s haphazard investments in non-core businesses under the former chairman’s regime, the deputy minister said there was yet to be any official result.

Hai added that Hung has yet to receive any disciplinary action from the Communist Party agency of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

“The ministry will publicize all conclusions, disciplines, and penalties concerning Hung when they are available,” Hai promised.
