Police in the central province of Quang Nam Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly falling asleep at the wheel of a car and plowing into a group of people last weekend, killing eight and injuring two others.

Tran Xuan Dong, 35, will be held in custody for four months for investigation.

Seven customers sitting in a roadside noodle shop on National Highway 1A in Nui Thanh town last Saturday were killed on the spot. They were from the same family and included six children.

Three others then were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

One of them, the shop owner, Tran Thi Nga, 45, succumbed Wednesday.

All three people in the car, including Dong, survived unhurt.
